Seems like no one knows where the name of "Fort Pearce" came
from.
There was no Fort Pearce in the area. The burials took place in the early 1860s.

Here's the stories of the Egan Canyon (Fort Pearce)Graveyard
The 5 graves in this cemetery are as
follows. 4 are US Army cavalry troops
who were killed in an Indian battle and the 5th is that of a Pony Express
rider???????????? That's not correct information
Fort Pearce cemetery ?
Site of Pony Express station of Egan canyon, its about 200
yards south of the cemetery.
No remains left. This station came under Indian attack a few times. There's a
canyon behind
me that opens up(Egan Canyon) about a hundred yards from the station site.
